Lovely to see you last night - I thought the Salon had a lovely atmosphere and it was really great to be able to talk about our projects with like-minded people. I felt quite uplifted by all the contacts I made and look forward to attending another event soon! When you get a chance could you email me the contact details for the company in Folkestone? As we are one of the few practices in the South East who can manage and design large contract projects it would be a good time for us to get on the band wagon!

The power of Millipod members should never be underestimated. This has been proved many times, but none more so I think, than my request for help in securing a £50,000 grant from the Peoples Million’s competition held by the Big Lottery Fund in November 2005. My village of Wootton (halfway between Canterbury and Dover) had applied to win a grant of £50,000 to build a new village hall as our old hall was in a desperate state of disrepair and haemorrhaging funds. The Peoples Million’s project was aired on Meridian TV and viewers had to vote via telephone or text for the cause they felt most worthy. Our village has a population of 175 and we were up against some stiff competition in the form of a project put forward by a Sittingbourne college; a collage of several hundred and a town of thousands. With the assistance of Millipod members, most of whom I’ll wager had never heard of our little village, we succeeded in achieving the highest number of votes and hence the huge sum of £50,000. Now that’s what I call the power of a networking group and I can think of no other similar group of which I am a member which is so willing to support one another and so cohesive. Millipod is special thanks to Griselda’s unique leadership and a group of members who really do care and understand what networking is all about.

This is a short eulogy for Millipod's IT guru: he took a state of the art but sadly-sick computer and not only retrieved my entire database, and all my other data intact, but replaced the hard drive and all for a very reasonable price. I foresaw weeks if not months of additional headaches. Many thanks for the introduction.
